To build on the academic honor values, Parkside will continue to participate in the state scholastic program. According to our school’s by-laws, qualification for Honor Society (sixth grade only) or CJSF (seventh and eighth grade only) membership is based on Scholarship, Service, and Citizenship

A $5.00 membership fee is requested to help offset cost of annual Chapter dues and honors given to 8th grade students at promotion to High School.

You must earn TWICE the number of points than courses in which you are enrolled that meet membership requirements. (i.e. 5 classes qualify, 10 points must be earned).

No points are earned for PE, Academic Support/Directed Studies, remedial or repeat course, or work experience in which pay is involved.

Points are granted as follows:

            A = 3 points

            B = 1 point

            C = 0 point

            D/F = will debar from membership if received in ANY class whether qualified or not

Semester membership is based on work done in the previous semester.

You must reapply a the beginning of each semester for membership.

School based community service is our preference.  Students must perform a minimum of 2 hours of school based community service each year.  This must be volunteer work; a grade or money cannot be received for this service.

Outside community service* must be approved in advance.  Please see Mrs. Wilson in the Counseling offices for preauthorization of outside service.  For verification of pre-approved off campus service you must attach a letter on the organization’s letterhead stating the following: date of service provided/completed, description of service, number of hours completed, name and signature of the contact person.  (Note: Contact coordinator or supervisor cannot be a parent or relative)

*Ideas for outside community service: Service with a club or organization of which you are already a part (such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, helping at a Homeless Shelter or Food Bank, free tutoring services).  Check out: The Volunteer Center for more ideas of volunteer opportunities locally and around the Bay Area.

The student must maintain a clean disciplinary record with no suspensions or expulsions and no more than 3 detentions per semester.

As per the by-laws of the Federation, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain a membership application and return it to the main office by the stated due date.  This will occur at the end of each semester.  No late applications will be accepted.  Applications are available in the main office and on our website.  Membership in the Honor Society/CJSF is not automatic or compulsory.

To qualify for the Gold Seal award, promoting 8th grade students must have maintained membership of CJSF for BOTH semesters of their 7th grade year and the FIRST semester of their 8th grade year.

To qualify for the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, graduating 8th grade students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or above.
