Transitioning to Parkside FAQs

1. While still in 5th grade how can I help my child prepare for next year?

  • Study Math: Special attention given to: multiplication tables, division, understanding and determining percentages, knowledge of fractions and equations.
  • Create a routine regarding homework completion and turning it in on time.
  • Read lots! Read to your child, have them read to you and have you child read books that interest them and are at their reading level to ensure success.

 

2. What can we do to prepare over the summer?  

  • Run and exercise daily (preparation for daily PE)
  • Read Parkside Summer Reading List (visit San Bruno Library)
  • Keep studying Math. Study Pre-Algebra concepts and problems: Work with your child in a summer bridge book 2-3 times/week to support maintenance of academic skills. (Summer Bridge resources)

4. Things to prepare and buy

  • Immunizations need to be current  and resubmitted
  • TDAP (Tetanus, Diptheria & Pertussis) is required for incoming 7th graders
  • Completed forms from your summer registration mailer (please contact the school ASAP if this mailer is not received by the end of July)
  • You will need to buy Parkside PE Clothes
  • Parkside Planner ($5.00)
  • Information will be sent home the first day from each class regarding required materials for individual subjects/teachers.
  • School uniform clothes:
    • Polos: white & green (solid colors, no stripes), Khaki pants
    • Gray or white sweat shirts
    • No Red or Blue on campus (including backpacks)

            How much will this cost?

            You should estimate $200 to $300 for school supplies and clothes (look for sales in August!).

            There will be Parkside PE clothes and used uniforms on sale at schedule days before school starts.

UNIFORM AND WARDROBE POLICY

STUDENT APPEARANCE AND DRESS

SCHOOL REQUIRED WARDROBE

UNIFORMS

Pants:

  • Fit to the size of the child.

  • Khaki colored pants ONLY,  no blue jeans, black or grey jeans or sweatpants.

  • Shorts, skirts, skorts same colors

Shirts:

  • Polo or collared shirts (No tee shirts)

  • No black or colored t-shirts or camisoles under polos.

  • White, forest green (school colors) or gray

Sweatshirts:  No extraneous writing, No Red or Blue

Backpacks:  No Red or Blue permitted

If students wish to wear the school uniform and are in need of assistance they should conference with administration. All information is confidential.
